Not that you were necessarily following this closely.. but an update:

March 27, Thursday, Thursday

We are happy to see that salvage work to remove the wreck of Tricolor is about to commence in April. An agreement in principle has been reached with a consortium headed by Smit Salvage B.V. to remove the Tricolor wreck. Wilh. Wilhelmsen, representing the owners of Tricolor and Gard Services AS, representing the P&I Club, have reached this agreement for the removal of the Tricolor wreck with the consortium named "Combinatie Berging TRICOLOR" headed by SMIT Salvage B.V.and with Scaldis, URS and Multraship as other intended partners.

The wreck will be cut into seven sections of approximately 3,000 tons each by means of specially designed cutting wire system that was used in the lifting of the Russian submarine Kursk in the Barents Sea. Each wreck section, including the cargo inside, will be lifted by means of two sheerleg crane barges that have two times 3,000 tons lifting capacity. Thereafter each section will be positioned onto a transport barge and carried to a specially designed shore facility for further disposal. It is anticipated that the wreck removal operation should be completed this autumn. Again, the progress of salvage work is dependent on local weather conditions.

I think they're doing it because several ships have run into the Tricolor...

As a boy I lived in Broadstairs that is a mere walking distance to Ramsgate. It was just off the coast of Ramsgate where the Tricolor had its mishap and sank into the shallow waters which is famous for its sandbank. I can remember seeing the sandbanks at low tide. Many a ship ran aground on the sandbanks and it didn't surprise me to hear that the Tricolor posed a danger having sank there also.

I wonder what the salvage value of those rusting MBs, BMWs and Volvos is?

With all the plastics used in cars today you'd think those pieces might be salvageable!
