Question Towing Capacity

I have a 2000 XC70 and I am interested in purchasing a boat. It would be an 18'-19' runabout. I know the manual says that the towing capacity is 3300lbs with a braked trailer. However, many boat trailers in this size range do not come with brakes. Does anybody have any experience towing a boat with a first generation Cross Country? Thoughts? Thanks!

Welcome stevedoe! There was a rather lengthy thread regarding towing capacities about a week ago - try the search button. I downloaded the thread and printed it since I was interested in towing a pop-up camper. I suspect my XC can handle that, but I'm not sure about a 19 foot boat. You'll have to draw your own conclusions from that discussion. I'll look for the thread in a minute and post a link when I find it - if no one beats me to it.

Thanks very much for your reply. I saw that thread, but it looked like it was for the 2001+ models. I have the older body style and was curious if anyone knew what the capacities were for it (assuming they're different). Thanks!

Default Towing a boat

Hi Stevedoe,

Although not a first generation XC I do tow exactly what you are talking about (an 18ft boat) with a 2nd generation XC very well. I can't imagine the towing capacity would be very different.

Question

Thanks for your reply, Ab. Looks like you have exactly the type of boat I'm looking for.

My follow up question for you is, does your trailer have brakes? I've found that most trailers for boats that size don't have brakes (probably because they figure most trucks can pull them just fine without brakes). The owner's manual says to use brakes for 2000-3500 pounds.

Any more light you could shed would be great. Thanks!
